Poetry 1

Uroosa Shah

In times of darkness, we lose sight of ourselves. And when I find myself in despair, I ask the woman I love and trust to revive me with her advice on making my heart soft. People are so caught up in the world around them, that they forget that what truly matters: the richness of their hearts and the pureness of their intentions.

I can truly and wholeheartedly tell you all that for me, this is the year of growth. Of loving And of learning

This poem is a compilation of words of advice from the one I love most, my mother.

To my daughter who loves:

You are a woman.

It is in our nature to give love.

We give and give and give our love to others but forget that we, too need to be loved.

So love yourself first.

To my daughter who might fall out of love:

You have this fear of falling out of love with what was never meant for you.

If something isn't written for you, let go.

Allah is the best of planners, so trust Him

You have no idea what He saved you from.

To my daughter who worries too much:

Be carefree.

Enjoy the fruits of life.

Enjoy your un-marriedhood and value the only time you can to love yourself.

Build the relationship you have with you

because if your relationship with her isn't strong, how can you bear the weight of loving someone else?

To my daughter who is outspoken:

Speak your mind.

And speak with thought.

Hold your tongue when you are angry.

Collect yourself before you choose to speak,

when you do speak with reason be sure to listen as well as hear.

To my daughter who struggles with her body:

Go to the gym.

Go with the intention of making your body strong. For the sake of being healthy.

For the sake of feeling happy,

Happiness is the purest form of beauty,

It is what radiates from within you.

To my daughter who feels destitute;

Pray.

Pray when your heart is torn.

Turn to the Mender of your heart and pray to Him.

Ya Jabbar, Ibjirnee

Once your pour your heart to God, you know where to find me.

I'll welcome you with open arms and pray for your strength.

To my daughter who struggles with covering:

You are so intelligent.

And you are also stunning.

God created you, most beautiful

only for the eyes worth seeing your magnificence.

Learn to love yourself for what is inside, because that's what counts.

Everything else should come later.

To my daughter who feels unwanted:

You are so loved.

So give love to the ones who love you.

And don't cry over the ones who don't.

You are wanted more than your heart can see. Find a home within the hearts of your loved ones and create a home for them as well.

Life is too short for sadness.

To my daughter that is growing in front of my very eyes:

I love you.

And I'm so proud of you.

I'm proud of who you were.

Who you are.

Who you will become.

And who you won't.

It's because you fell,

that you learned how to rise.

— from a mother whose love is unmeasurable
